Fishery

Seychelles is the shortest distance to and from almost 90% of the tuna fishing ground. It yields over 25% of the total tuna catch in the western Indian Ocean. Fishery represents 17% of formal employment.

The production of fish amounted to 130,000 MT in year 2005 bring foreign exchange of 53% of gross receipts, supported by excellent port facilities, services and vessels maintenance. Port Victoria is one of the largest tuna transhipment port in the world transacting 80% of catch of purseseiners in the region.

Seychelles Government is promoting sustainable and responsible fisheries to optimizing this sector to the future generations.
